CITY, ND – (NewsDakota.com) A former administrative assistant who worked for the Barnes County Auditor’s office filed a complaint back in November of 2015 stating that she was wrongfully terminated for insubordination as she was seeking legal advice concerning how to enter addresses into the central voter file after the November 4th 2014 election.

Karen Christenson claims there were discrepancies with addresses in Precincts 3 & 4 which she believed violated North Dakota law. She said she was concerned with the legal consequences for herself and the Barnes County Auditor’s office by entering in the dorm name, room numbers or PO Box numbers with voters on the VCSU campus.

Fargo attorney Ross Nilson represents Christenson, he talked to reporter Steve Urness about the focus behind the complaint.

Grand Forks attorney Howard Swanson is representing Barnes County and was unavailable for comment on Monday, August 15th.

Christenson is seeking $50,000 in damages and reimbursement for her attorney’s fees under North Dakota law.

A four day jury trial has been scheduled to start October 24th in the Barnes County Courthouse in Valley City.
