Carolynn Faye Simonson, the daughter of Justin and Ingaborg (Hauge) Simonson, was born July 26, 1937 in Turtle Lake, ND where she grew up and attended first grade. In 1944, she moved to Mayville, ND and moved to Enderlin, ND in 1946 where she attended high school. She married Lyle Mammenga, and the couple had four daughters, Susan, Julie, Paulette and Kelly. On April 10, 1976 Carolynn married Don Peterson in Valley City. The couple greatly enjoyed living on their farm near Valley City until Don passed away on May 21, 2009. Carolynn later sold the farm and moved into Valley City. Carolynn enjoyed swimming, and was a lifeguard when she was younger. She enjoyed cooking and baking; it was her way of making people feel that she loved and cared for them. She also enjoyed spending time with Don at their lake cabin in Minnesota for many years. She loved to host family gatherings and gardening, and they looked forward to visits from her grandchildren that filled her heart with joy. She was confined to a motorized scooter, but she did not let that define who she was.
Carolynn is survived by her daughters, Susan Bright, Las Vegas, NV, Paulette (Brett) Omdahl, Oriska, ND, Julie (Steve Tangen) Richman, Valley City, ND and Kelly (Randy Suhr) Mammenga, Oriska, ND; one step son, Mark Peterson, Bismarck, ND; 12 grandchildren, Tim, Becky, Matt, Mike, Leah, Jesse, Kari, Jermey, Joey, Kyle, Janel and Brook; 6 great-grandchildren; one brother, Myron (Carolyn Joyce) Simonson, Fargo, ND; one sister, Gwen (Mike) Flynn, Alexandria, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother, Jerome, a sister, Merilyn, and two sisters in law, Lizette and Maurice.
