N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The North Dakota Ag Department is teaming up with state organizations to help battle hunger.
August is normally the time for harvest for many North Dakota farmers and gardeners and the state Department of Ag is asking them to help the thousands of hungry state residents
State Ag Commissioner Doug Goehring.
According to Goehring, more than 93,000 children, families and seniors in the state rely on food assistance. More than one-third of those are children. Goehring says the Hunger Free North Dakota Garden project is looking to alleviate the hunger needs.
Goehring pointed out that they’ve set a fairly lofty goal this year for food collection and distribution.
Goehring says local gardeners and farmers can assist in the project by donating extra food from harvest to their community food pantry or soup kitchen to help.
