N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A Williston, ND native and University of Jamestown alum will be having the experience of a lifetime as a volunteer at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

Serena Christianson currently resides in Tempe, Arizona and is joining a handful of others serving as volunteers during the summer event. Christianson stated that the opportunity to volunteer came from just liking the Olympics Facebook page.

Christianson’s spur-of-the-moment application submission landed her the role of volunteer during the Summer Olympics. She explained the process behind being accepted as a volunteer.

Christianson has been attending extensive online training in subjects such as diversity and inclusion, service excellence, safety, the games themselves, and her role as a volunteer. She is hoping her opportunity inspires others to take chances and step outside of their comfort zone.

Christianson will leave for Rio this Friday and volunteer for nine days. She plans to watch the US Olympic Team and Swim Team during her time there.

You can follow Christianson’s journey by following her on Facebook or her blog on Linkedin.
