N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The popularity of the augmented reality game “Pokémon Go” is prompting law enforcement and organizations to remind those playing to be safe. Now, local co-ops are chiming in.
Dakota Valley and Northern Plains Electric Cooperatives are reminding Pokémon Go players to stay away from electric substations, power plants, and other electric equipment. The smart-phone based game sends players to real world locations to catch Pokémon.
According to Operations Manager Craig Rysavy, the game has the creatures appearing at electric substations, drawing the players into dangerous situations.
“Electric utilities cannot control where the Pokémon appear, and players should make sure they catch their Pokémon from a safe distance,” said Operations Manager Craig Rysavy. “Any game that distracts people from the possible dangers of our electrical equipment and lines is a major concern for us all.”
No injuries have been reported so far, but the co-ops are hoping to raise awareness to keep everyone safe.
