CITY, ND – (NewsDakota.com) Former Valley City Police Lt. David Swenson will resign his position as the Community Service Officer in about two weeks.

Community Service board president Wanda Auka told the board during a special meeting on Friday that Swenson submitted his resignation.

Community Service board member Mike Metcalf says a committee will start the search process and advertise to fill the position.

Community Service board member Carl Martineck says the board is working to change its policies and procedures concerning the Community Service Program.

Earlier this month, nothing irregular was discovered following an investigation by the Community Service Board concerning a complaint that accused Swenson of overlapping his city work hours as a police officer along with those as the Community Service officer for Barnes County.

An internal investigation says Swenson did not commit a crime following an allegation that he was drawing hourly wages from three separate revenue streams for the same hours as a city police officer and as the community service officer.

Swenson retired from the Valley City police department a day after Police Chief Fred Thompson issued a news release that said Swenson was part of another internal investigation earlier this month. Thompson gave no details, but said the investigation continues and will take about 30 days to complete.
