N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Matching funds put forth by the Jamestown Stutsman Development Corporation board has made the possibility of a barley processing plant a reality.
During a board meeting Monday, the JSDC Board approved $50,000 in matching grants to support a pilot project and explore a potential barley processing plant in the energy park. Corry Shevlin, Business Development Manager with JSDC, said that Spiritwood Ingredients was drawing up engineering plans.
The plant would take 5 million bushels of barley to produce 25,000 tons of protein as food for aquaculture. KFGO’s Sarah Heinrich talked with Doug Anderson, an Agent with Spiritwood Ingredients. He stated that the established ethanol plant will assist with the project.
If the pilot project is successful, the plant could be fully operational by the fall of 2017.
