N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown City Planning Commission met on Monday to discuss the Traffic Impact Study Survey.

Principal Planning Cindy Gray with SRF Consulting, came before the commission to update them on the Traffic Impact Study Survey. The consulting firm asked other jurisdictions including Bismarck, Fargo, Grand Forks, Minot and McKenzie County how they conduct traffic impact studies and the implementation of improvements by the studies.

Questions that were asked included ordinances requiring studies, what triggers the requirement and if the developer is required to pay for the traffic impact study. Commission Chair David Hillerud stated that some of the findings that SRF Consulting found in the survey were surprising.

Discussion took place following the presentation, trying to determine if a recommendation should be made to the city council for developers to pay for a traffic impact study and if where the funding should come from. Councilmember Ramone Gumke was present and stated that the council supported what the initial ordinance that was sent to them, but had a problem with how it would be paid for.

With the information presented and the discussion, Hillreud made the suggestion that the commission spend time reading the survey findings and have SRF Consulting present a new ordinance that had all the information provided.

The commission will look at the ordinance at their next monthly meeting.
