N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – On July 1st, District Court ordered the termination of Barnes County as the responsible party for the 64 seized dogs June 22nd from the Karl and Ginger Helland residence in rural Kathryn, North Dakota.
Karl and Ginger Helland have been ordered by the court to give all 64 seized dogs to Prairie Paws Rescue organization based in Jamestown.
Barnes County State’s Attorney Carl Martineck appeared on behalf of the petitioner. According to the court documents, Prairie Paws Rescue has custody and control of the 64 dogs to dispose of at their discretion.
According to the court document, “If Prairie Paws determines that any person has legal claim to one or more of the dogs, as a bona fide purchaser or otherwise, that person shall have first right to take custody of said dog(s) from Prairie Paws.”
Ginger Helland has been provided with contact information for Prairie Paws and will be required to allow Prairie Paws to make placement determinations, provide care, control, and medical services to the animals.
