N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Post 25 was back in action on Thursday afternoon for a double header with the defending Central Region Champs, the Flyers of Hatton Post 70. Carrington swept the Flyers, 16-5 and 3-2. Post 25 improves to 6-1 in the Central Region and 7-3-1 overall, Hatton drops to 3-4 and 5-10 overall.
First game: Carrington 16 Hatton 5, 10-run rule in five innings.
Post 25 sent 14 batters to plate in the third inning and nine batters in the fourth inning and scored a combined 15 runs during the two innings to help secure the victory in the first game yesterday. The top of the order for Post 25, Connor Wendel, Jayden Rosenau and Brady Smith had two hits each. Smith had four RBI and Rosenau had two, RBI doubles. All nine batters scored at least one run and eight of the nine batters had at least one hit, Jayden Shipman was the only batter that did not have a hit, but he reached based twice, once on an error and a walk. Shipman was the winning pitcher, working five innings with five runs and five hits. Landon Workin took the loss, Braeden Jorgensen worked two and two-thirds in relief. Third basemen Neil Foss for Post 70 had two hits at the plate, including a two RBI double in the third inning.
Second game: Carrington 3 Hatton 2, 8 innings.
In a complete opposite game from the first one, Post 25 was down 2-0 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning, they would score two runs to tie it, and win the game in the bottom of the eighth when Brady Smith was walked, then stole a base and reached third on a wild pitch, Clean-up batter Easton Paeper hit a fly ball to the outfield and Smith tagged from third and scored the winning run. Braxton Hewitt picked up the complete game victory on the hill and improves to 2-0 this year, he had eight strikeouts, with six hits and two runs. Jake Bilden suffered the loss, working all eight innings, with five hits, three runs, three walks and four strikeouts. Paeper ended the game going 2-for-3 with a sacrifice and two RBI. Lucas Mohn for Post 70 had two singles.
Next up for Post 25 will be Friday afternoon, July 1st for another Central Region match-up with the Blacksox Post 30 in New Rockford. Pregame will start at 5:15pm, first pitch at 5:30pm on AM 1600 KDAK and newsdakota.com. A seven and a five inning game are scheduled, KDAK will cover just the seven inning counter game.
