N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Northern Plains Electric Cooperative have approved grants totaling $10,400 to help support several worthy causes in the area.

The grants are made possible through the generosity of cooperative members who voluntarily elect to have their electric bills rounded up to the next dollar. The donated amount averages about 50 cents a month for each participating member and raises approximately $37,000 every year.

Since the program was started in October 1998, nearly $644,362 have been donated to 876 local charitable causes. Below is the list of individuals and organizations that will be receiving some of the grant money.

Jim Busch, Glenfield, to assist with medical expenses.

Shannon Hoyt, Glenfield, to assist with house fire cleanup.

Kent Haugen, Cando, to assist with medical expenses.

Kiwanis Club of Harvey, playground equipment.

Maddock Park Board, swimming pool renovations.

American Legion, Wimbledon, Vets Memorial project.

Harvey Senior Citizens, roof repair.

Children’s Recreation Park @ Juanita, playground equipment and flag pole.

Friends of Griggs County Library, library project

Medina City & Rural Fire District, rescue tools

City of Balta, playground equipment

Jamestown Fine Arts, youth art program

Lisa Beckley, Bordulac, to assist with medical expenses.

Jason Hegvick, Glenfield, to assist with medical expenses.
