The city commission also approved of portfolio assignments for city commission members:

The commission appointed Duane Magnuson to become the Vice-President of the city commission or deputy mayor until the special election for mayor on September 15th.

Magnuson will also have the City Streets & Sewer portfolio.

Mike Bishop will have the Police and Fire Department portfolio.

Rick Ross will have the Electric and Water Department portfolio.

And acting mayor Matt Pedersen will have the Building & Grounds portfolio.

The realignment will more than likely change once a new mayor is elected in the September 15th special election.

Interested individuals have until July 12th to circulate and gather 131 signatures to run for mayor of Valley City. Petitions are available in the city auditors office.

The deadline to submit the petition to city auditor Avis Richter is 4pm on July 12th.
