N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – John Rick, the manager of the Equity Cooperative Elevator in Sheyenne, North Dakota says his company is beginning the recovery process after a massive fire destroyed the main complex Tuesday night.

He calls the loss “devastating.” Destroyed were the main elevator, annex, office, computers, equipment and a pile of grain.?

The losses could go higher, depending on whether two large steel bins containing 160,000 bushels of grain, seperate from the rest of the complex, were damaged. A smaller grain elevator south of the main elevator was not damaged.?

Although a cause has not been determined, Rick says the fire started at the top of the elevator, in an area known as the headhouse. A deputy state fire marshal has been called in to look for the cause.?

Rick is confident the 103 year old company will re-build. More will be known once insurance adjusters complete their investigation.
