N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown Land Use & Transportation plan prioritized five projects in February, but some of the projects might be a few years down the road.
The LUTP, which is engineered by RDG Planning and Design along with KLJ Engineering, is a detailed list of projects in order for the city to realize and allow more growth. The top five projects were decided on in February this year, with the road connecting the Jamestown Regional Medical Center taking precedence.
Jamestown Mayor Katie Andersen stated during the local Regional Issues meeting that the council is currently waiting for Interstate Engineering to inspect annexation, platting, and design. They also need to contact several agencies before any work can begin.
The next few items on the list to be focused on in the LUTP include an additional overpass over the BNSF main line tracks, creating 3-lane traffic to the downtown streets, and replacing the bridge over the James River on 4th Avenue Northwest.
Overall cost for these and the other projects named in the LUTP sit at roughly $98 million through 2040 with an additional $40 million in maintenance cost. Mayer Andersen says these projects are a ways down the road due to funding issues.
Andersen pointed out that it’ll be difficult to find funding because the city sales tax is already allocated for the next several years. Updates to the Land Use & Transportation Plan can be found on the City of Jamestown’s website.
