(NewsDakota.com) By an 8-1 vote, the North Dakota High School Activities Association’s Board of Directors this week voted to impliment the use of a “mercy rule” or “running clock” in Class B Basketball; commencing in the 2016-17 season.
The fourth quarter clock will run uninterrupted if a team is up by 30 or more points, and would only stop in timeout or injury situations.
In addition, the Class B State Volleyball, Baseball, Basketball and Wrestling tournaments will now be seeded 1-5, with the last three teams selected as a random draw. For the last three years, the tournaments were seeded 1-4 with four random draws.
A proposal to pursue division of basketball into three classifications was unanimously voted down by the board on Monday.
