(NewsDakota.com) At the beginning of the high school season, Oakes’ Michael Kelly set a school record with 17 strikeouts in a win over Fargo Oak Grove.
On Thursday night at Cummings Field, in his first start of the American Legion season, Kelly once again fanned 17 as Post 36 defeated Lidgerwood Post 84 1-0.
The lone run in the game was scored with one out in the bottom of the fourth inning, as Isaiah Hoelscher drove in Tyler Voightman. Hoelscher also registered a hit in the sixth inning, and Blake Hollingsworth along with Kelly each had two hits; one of Hollingsworth’s was a triple.
In addition to Kelly’s 17 strikeouts, he allowed just three hits and walked one in seven innings. Alex Wisnewski was the tough luck loser for Post 84 (0-2 Class B Southeast Region) going six innings, surrendering the lone run on six hits, while striking out seven.
Post 36 (1-1) heads to Lisbon on Sunday to face Post 7. Coverage on KDDR-AM 1220/95.9 FM and NewsDakota.com starts at 5:45, with first pitch at 6 p.m.
