CITY, ND – (NewsDakota.com) Valley City Commissioner Madeline Luke is concerned about what the cost to taxpayers will be in the future as the city moves forward with permanent flood protection.

But Interim Mayor Matt Pedersen reminded Luke that there will be no additional cost to taxpayers being the city is limited by the amount that the city sale tax brings in stemming from a citywide measure approved by voters two years ago.

Earlier this year, City Commissioner Mary Lee Nielson and Matt Pedersen said future phases of the permanent flood protection project in Valley City may be pushed back being State Water Commission funding was affected by a decline in oil revenue collections.

The lion share of permanent flood protection funding for Valley City comes from the State Water Commission.
