N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The North Dakota Sports Hall of Fame has announced their 2016 class of inductees.
Hank Biesiot, Travis Hafner, and Jocelyne and Monique Lamoureux will receive the Cliff Cushman Award as they are inducted into the North Dakota Sports Hall of Fame. A banquet will be held in their honor on June 11th, 2016. Cliff Cushman was Grand Forks native and 1960 Olympian and lost his life in the Vietnam War. The award was named in his honor.
Hank Biesiot is a former American football player and coach. He was head football coach at Dickinson State university, a position he held since 1976 until retiring in the 2013 season. Biesiot was one of the few college coaches with over 200 career wins and 30 seasons of experience.
Travis Hafner is a former American professional baseball player. He was born in Jamestown, North Dakota and played as a designated hitter and first basemen in Major League Baseball. Hafner played for the Texas Rangers, Cleveland Indians, and the New York Yankees. During his career, Hafner batted a .273 average and hit 213 home runs. He retired in 2013.
Twin sisters Monique and Jocelyne Lamoureux are both American Ice Hockey players. Both were born in Grand Forks, North Dakota and were the first set of twins to ever play women’s ice hockey in the Olympics. Both won a silver medal while player on team USA’s hockey team.
All individuals will be honored during the banquet on June 11th in Jamestown.
