Francis Anne Bellemare, 92, of Valley City, ND died at the Maryvale Convent on June 7, 2016. Her funeral will be Sunday, June 12, at 1:00 p.m. in the Maryvale Convent Chapel. Father Donald Leiphon will be the celebrant. Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 11 with a prayer service beginning at 2:00 p.m. in the Maryvale Chapel, Valley City, ND.
Sister Francis Anne (Marie Flore Angele, “Angela”) was born on May 12, 1924 in Fargo, ND to Francis and Anna (Brunelle) Bellemare. She was the fourth in a family of twelve children – eight boys and three girls – living near Wild Rice, North Dakota. She attended grade and high school at St. Joseph’s in Wild Rice, North Dakota, graduating in 1942. She professed her vows as a Sister of Mary of the Presentation August 23, 1944, in Spring Valley, Illinois. She began her ministry at St. Cecilia Catholic School, Harvey, ND in 1944, teaching first and second grades. The next year she attended St. Andrew School of Nursing, Bottineau, ND, graduating as a Registered Nurse in 1948. She continued her studies at St. Francis Hospital, Peoria, Illinois, becoming an Operating Technician in 1950. She attended St. Luke’s School, Aberdeen, SD and became a Nurse Anesthetist in 1953. She obtained her Bachelors of Science in Nursing from University of Mary in 1966 and clinical pastoral education from Creighton University Hospital, Omaha, NE in 1983.
Sister Francis Anne served in many healthcare positions throughout her life at St. Aloisius Medical Center, Harvey, ND, 1953-1956, 1960-1962, 1972-1974; St. Andrew’s Health Care, Bottineau, ND, 1948-1952, 1956-1959; St. Margaret’s Health, Spring Valley, IL 1962-1964, 1968-1972, 1974-1983 and 1996-2006; Presentation Medical Center, Rolla, ND 1966-68; Presentation Care Center, Rolette, ND 1988-1996; and St. John’s Hospital, Fargo, ND 1986-88. She served in hospitality at the Prayer and Education Center, Guernsey, Channel Islands, 1984-1985. She retired to the Maryvale Convent in 2006.
Sister Francis Anne was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers Max, Henry, Paul, Alfred, John Louis, Edward, Francis, Jr., John and sister Alice Germanson. She is survived by her Religious Community, the Sisters of Mary of the Presentation, her brother Daniel (Linda), her sister Theresa, brother-in-law Ernest, sister-in-law Rosie and nieces and nephews.
