Jeanne Helland, 64, Kathryn, ND passed away June 2, 2016 at Essentia Health in Fargo, ND.  Paula was born April 20, 1952 in Bismarck, the only child of Matt and Bertha (Bryan) Emerson.  She was baptized and confirmed in the Presbyterian faith and later became a member of St. Paul Lutheran Parish in Kathryn.

Paula attended school in Bismarck, graduating from high school in 1970.  In 1976 she earned her Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from North Dakota State University in Fargo.  On November 25, 1978 she married Dennis Helland in Valley City.  Dennis & Paula made their home at rural Kathryn and were blessed with two sons, Karl and Kevin.

Along with raising their children Paula worked outside the home at various pharmacies in Valley City, Lisbon, Enderlin, LaMoure, Oakes, Mercy Hospital, and Jamestown Hospital; and consulted for nursing homes in Edgeley, LaMoure, and Oakes.

She was a primary caregiver for Denny during his last year of illness.  Paula loved to travel, was a past member of the Homemakers Club, enjoyed doing ceramics and art, and spending time with family and friends.  She loved and enjoyed spending time with her grandsons, Kody, Kolten and Koy, and granddaughter Taylor.

Paula is survived by her sons, Karl (Ginger), Kathryn, ND, and Kevin, Denver, CO; grandchildren, Taylor, Box Elder, SD, amd Kody, Kolten and Koy, Kathryn, ND; sisters-in-law, Marlene (Tom) Sagaser, Jamestown, Deloris (Larry) Welken, Valley City, and Donna (Roger) Hentges, Fargo; uncle Gordy Emerson, Chaseley, ND; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis (November 2014), her parents Matt and Bertha Emerson and father-in-law and mother-in-law Denver and Mabel Helland.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Monday, June 6, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Kathryn with Pastor Bradley Edin officiating.  Arrangements by Oliver-Nathan Funeral Chapel, Valley City, with an on-line guestbook available at www.olivernathanchapel.com.  Blessed be the memory of Paula Jeanne Emerson Helland.
