LAMOURE, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Cheryl Gackle of Kulm has been named the LaMoure County Relay for Life 2016 Honorary Survivor.

Gackle has suffered two encounters with cancer. She was diagnosed with thyroid cancer through an ultrasound when she developed an abnormal parathyroid. Doctors removed one gland and the thyroid gland in September 2013. In March 2015, doctors found another small tumor.

She has since completed surgery, radiation and chemotherapy in August 2015. One year later and she is cancer free.

“Cancer survivors know what it means to fight for your life. This survivor knows how to take something negative, and turn it into a positive.” Katie Ryan-Anderson says in a release.

Cheryl is married to Wes Gackle. Together, they have three children and two grandchildren. She teaches English at Kulm High School.

The LaMoure County Relay for Life is set for 6:00 PM Friday, June 10th at the LaMoure Public School.
