CITY, ND – (NewsDakota.com) After serving more than 40 years in education and 18 of those as the Valley City Public Schools Superintendent, Dean Koppelman is retiring on June 30th.

Koppelman talked about some of the highlights during his time in Valley City including the moment reporter Steve Urness thought he heard former school activities director Al Cruchet say all spring sports were canceled because of the flood of 2009.

Koppelman says his phone as well as other school district official’s phones exploded with calls from parents after Urness mistakenly made the erroneous announcement back in 2009 on KOVC Radio.

On July 1st Oakes Public Schools Superintendent Josh Johnson will take over and become the next Valley City Public Schools Superintendent.

The final day of this school year ends on Wednesday, May 25th for Valley City School district students.
