Weber, age 92, of Valley City, ND died Thursday, May 19, 2016 at the Sheyenne Care Center in Valley City. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Valley City. Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 24, 2016 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the church and one hour before the service at the church. Inurnment will be in North Dakota Veteran’s Cemetery, Mandan, ND.
Rheinhold (Rhiny) Louis Weber, the son of Conrad and Amelia (Hoff) Weber, was born July 14, 1923 in Englevale, ND. Rhiny grew up and attended school in Noltimier Township and graduated in 1941. Rhiny attended NDSSS until he was drafted into the US Army during WWII. He was captured in northern Italy and was a Prisoner of War (POW). Rhiny married Jo (Schaefer) and they raised three children, Corrinne, Jeanne, and Jim in Valley City. Rhiny married Mary Lou (Markuson) and continued to reside in Valley City, ND.
Rhiny’s working career began at Zero Lockers. Next he campaigned for and was elected as Barnes County Sheriff. Leaving the Sheriff’s office, Rhiny with two friends started, co-owned, and operated Valley Meat Supply. After years in the meat business he decided to campaign for and was elected again as Barnes County Sheriff. Rhiny retired from the Sheriff’s department, but soon after campaigned for and was elected as a Barnes County Commissioner. Once he retired as a Barnes County Commissioner he stayed retired.
Rhiny was an active member of the VFW, DAV, POW, AMVETS, American Legion, and Cooties. Over the years he held many local, state, and national offices including commander of the DAV, POW, VFW, and MOC. Being a member of the VFW Honor Guard was close to his heart. All veterans were important to Rhiny and he was proud to be an American. Rhiny was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Eagles, BC Wildlife, and VC Bowling Hall of Fame.
Rhiny is survived by his wife, Mary Lou, Valley City, ND; his son Jim (Linda), West Fargo, ND; his daughter Jeanne Schneider, Durham, NC; his step-son Randie Markuson, Valley City, ND; five grandsons, Tom (Lindsay) Pihl, Chanhassen, MN, David (Thania) Schneider, Durham, NC, Robert (Laura) Schneider, New York City, NY, Peter (Michelle) Weber, Moorhead, MN, and Timothy (Katie Conrad) Weber, Land O’Lakes, FL; one step-granddaughter Megan Markuson, Valley City, ND; three great-grandsons, Tristan Dawson, Jacob Pihl, and Theo Schneider; two great-granddaughters, Norah Pihl and Despina Schneider; and four siblings, Don Weber, Gary(Jane) Weber, Arnie (Ginger) Weber, and Merl Weber.
Rhiny was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Corrinne Weber, and brother Vern Weber.
