(NewsDakota.com) The #1 seeded Kindred/Richland Vikings and #3 seeded Northern Cass Jaguars will meet Monday for the Class B Region I Championship Series just outside of Hunter, after surviving Saturday play at Central Cass High School.
#3 Northern Cass 3 #6 LaMoure-LM 1
LLM’s lone run came in the first inning, on an RBI double by Drew Theilges, which scored Marcus Good. However, Northern Cass’ Logan Nelson soon settled down, and aided his team with a full seven innings of work, with only four hits allowed to send the Jaguars to the semifinals.
Quinn Alo took the loss for the Loboes, who saw their season end with a mark of 3-11. Also went five innings, and struck out four.
#5 Oakes 7 #4 Enderlin/Maple Valley 0
The Tornadoes played sound ball; the defense didn’t commit an error, and the offense produced seven hits off of Falcon pitching.
Michael Kelly’s pitching didn’t hurt either, with 11 strikeouts in only five innings of work. Ethan Zetocha had three runs scored, a triple and a single.
EMV’s season ends at 7-6; the two hits for them came from Dillon Bartholmay, and Chance Bye.
#3 Northern Cass 8 #2 Central Cass 4
The Jaguars scored more runs in the third inning, a total of four, than they did in their entire first game against LLM. Down 6-1 after two and a half innings, Central Cass did find some life with a run each in the fourth and fifth innings, but it just wasn’t enough. Northern Cass makes it to the Championship with just nine hits in the two games they played, with three errors against the Squirrels.
Dawson Hayden earned the win, his second of the year against the Squirrels, striking out five, Nate Volk was the losing pitcher for Central Cass, who’s season ends at 9-3
Kindred/Richland 12 Oakes 2 (5 Innings)
The Vikings wasted little time dismantling the Tornadoes in the second regional semifinal. Kindred, now 11-2, scored four runs in the first, added five in the second and another two in the third to propel them to the Championship series.
Oakes ends the season at 6-8, and scored two runs on three hits in the fifth inning to force a bottom of the fifth inning. Zander Bauer took the loss on the mound, lasting just an inning and two-thirds, but registered one of the two Oakes runs.
Games one and two of the Region I Championship Series will be on Monday at Kindred, with a game time set for 5 p.m. Game two will follow, and Game three if needed will be Tuesday. The winner of the best-of-three series goes to Fargo for the State Class B Baseball Tournament.
