N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Sixty-five first responders and county officials took part in terrorism and response communication training during a mock incident on Friday, May 20th at the LaMoure County Courthouse.

The mock incident was built to test the emergency response, communication plans and building security of the courthouse. The incident involved two shooters that were apprehended by law enforcement while Emergency Medical Services treated “victims” and fire department officials provided perimeter control and also assisted Emergency Medical Services.

The training and exercise was brought to LaMoure County through a North Dakota State Homeland Security Grant. As this was a full-scale exercise, the first responders and courthouse officials were encouraged to respond as they would likely respond in a real scenario.

A debriefing held immediately after the exercise highlighted things from the exercise. The courthouse security system and emergency response plan, radio communication and incident command was emphasized during this debriefing.

Participating organizations in this exercise included: law enforcement from North Dakota High Patrol, LaMoure, Logan, and Dickey County Sheriff Departments, LaMoure, Kulm, and Ellendale Police Departments, LaMoure Fire department, LaMoure ambulance service, Emergency Services managers from LaMoure, Dickey, Cass, Logan, Stutsman, Ransom and Barnes counties; Regional Emergency Services director, LaMoure County and Central Valley Public Health officials, North Dakota State Dispatch Center in Bismarck, and staff and elected officials from LaMoure County Courthouse.
