T. Schmidt, 87, Jamestown, ND, died Thursday, May 12, 2016 at the Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, ND.

Walter Schmidt was born April 8, 1929 near Borup, MN, the son of Ernest and Johanna (Hruby) Schmidt. He grew up and attended rural elementary school and high school in Borup.

He and Julie Kjelvik were married November 13, 1949 near Perley, MN. They lived in Moorhead, MN where he worked for Peavey Lumber from 1949-52 and Knerr Dairy 1952-53. In 1953 he went to work at Indianhead Truck Line. They moved to Jamestown in 1966 where he continued to drive truck until retiring in 1989.

Walter was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church and a 50 plus year Golden member of the Eagles. He enjoyed attending auctions, Julie’s bowling tournaments, camping with his motor home and fishing.

He is survived by his wife Julie, Jamestown, ND; 2 children, Ilene (Michael Raaum) Schmidt, Basalt, CO, and David (Sandi) Schmidt, Brainerd, MN; 4 grandchildren, Amy (Shawn) Nash, Ericka (Steve) Wentz, Michael Schmidt and Tanner Schmidt; 2 great grandchildren, Aubrey and Asa Wentz; and his sisters-in-law, Doris Schmidt, Wendi Kjelvik, Rojean Kjelvik and Hjordis (Francis) Martell.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Emil Schmidt and Benjamin Schmidt; 2 sisters, Marie Frater and Frances Nordby; and 3 brothers-in-law, Leif, Norman and Harold Kjelvik.

Funeral Service – 11:00 AM Monday, May 16, 2016 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Jamestown, ND with Pastor Lucinda Lien, officiating

Prayer Service – 7:00 PM Sunday, May 15, 2016 at Haut Funeral Home, Jamestown

Interment – Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown, ND

Visitation – 1:00-7:00 PM Sunday at the Funeral Home, family will receive friends 5-7
