J. Trader, age 82, former Valley City businessman, died May 10, 2016 at Golden Acres Nursing Home at Carrington, ND.  Funeral Services will be conducted at 1:30 PM Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Valley City with Rev. JoAnne Moeller officiating.  Visitation will be from 5PM until 7PM Tuesday, May 17 at Trinity Lutheran Church with a Prayer Service beginning at 7PM.  Interment will be in the Oriska Cemetery, Oriska, ND.

LeRoy Julius Trader was born June 29, 1933 on his parents’ farm near Oriska, ND to Charles and Emma (Priebe) Trader.  He was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church in Valley City. He graduated from Oriska High School. He married Janice Pedersen in Valley City on May 14, 1954, and they had four children. He worked various odd jobs before establishing Trader Brothers welding with his brother Earl, in 1956. He happily worked there until his retirement in 2012.

Leroy excelled with his self-taught welding ability.  He was able to fix and repair just about anything as well as use his artistic gift to create unique welded items. He was a member of both the Elks Lodge and Eagles Lodge in Valley City.  LeRoy adored his family and enjoyed fishing, collecting guns, poker, hunting, and watching sports on TV.  He had a great sense of humor and appreciated his “Happy Hour” at the shop with his friends.  His engaging personality provided him with many valuable friends.

He is survived by a son Randy (Veronica Fischer) Trader, Fargo, ND; two daughters,   Valerie Trader, Edina, MN, and Melea (Dean) Neis, Carrington, ND; four grandchildren: Lyndsay (Tyler Atkins) Trader, Albuquerque, NM, Amanda (Jordan) Berg, Beulah, ND, Dawsen Neis, and Reese Neis, Carrington, ND.  Great grandchildren are: Julian Trader-Atkins and Brooklyn Berg, and a third great grandchild is due in August.  Also surviving is a brother, Fred Trader, Omaha, NE, and many other relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Janice Trader Orness, a son, Jody Dean Trader, five brothers, Carl, Art, Donald, Earl, and Albert, four sisters, Irma Swanke, Eleanor Martinson, Mae Triebold, and Dorothy Young, and several wonderful friends, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and relatives.
