CITY, ND – (NewsDakota.com) Valley City State University will hold its 124th commencement exercises Saturday, May 14 in W.E. Osmon Fieldhouse at 10am.

VCSU Director of Marketing Greg Vanney said a total of 288 students—242 undergraduates and 46 graduate students—are eligible to participate in the commencement exercises. Valley City State University students will be awarded the following degrees: Master of Education (M.Ed.), Bachelor of Science in Education (B.S.Ed.), Bachelor of Science (B.S.), Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) and Bachelor of University Studies (B.U.S.).

VCSU President Tisa Mason will preside at the commencement ceremony. Mason has served as president at Valley City State since December 2014. This year she received two distinct honors—recognition from the NASPA Foundation with a Pillars of the Profession award recognizing her contributions to the student affairs profession and a place on Prairie Business magazine’s Top 25 Women in Business list.

Representing the North Dakota State Board of Higher Education (SBHE) at VCSU’s commencement is Greg Stemen, a 1988 VCSU alumnus. Branch manager of First Community Credit Union in Oakes, N.D., Stemen began serving on the SBHE in July 2015.

Graduating senior Malik Jackson will present the undergraduate student reflection. A double major in psychology and human services, Jackson came to VCSU from Las Vegas, Nev., to run track and cross country.

Luis da Vinha, VCSU assistant professor of social science, will provide the faculty reflection. Da Vinha, who teaches geography and political science, recently was named “Teacher of the Year” by the VCSU Student Senate.

The public is invited to attend the commencement ceremony and a reception immediately following in the VCSU Student Center.
