N.D. (NewsDakota.com)——–The Carrington Cardinals secured the top seed for the upcoming Region 3 baseball tourney with a 11-1 victory over Midkota-DP. Freshman pitcher Kyle Leapaldt held the Mustangs to 1 unearned run and struck out 4 batters to pickup the victory.

The Cards led 2-0 after 3 innings but scored 3 times in the 4th and 4 more times in the 5th to open up a 9-0 lead. Midkota would get their lone tally in the 6th, but the Cards countered with 2 more runs in the bottom of the 6th to end the game 11-1, due to the 10 run rule. Leapaldt would also add a 2 run single I the 5th inning, and also had a run scoring fielders choice picking up 3 RBI in the game. Connor Wendel picked up 2 hits, scoring twice, and drove in 1 run. Lucas Geiszler also had 2 hits, scored twice, and also had 1 RBI. Jayden Rosenau and Jayden Shipman both scored twice, Rosenau was 1-3, and Shipman 1-2 (2 walks). Midkota scored its only run after 2 outs in the 6th inning a Tyler Gravseth double led to a bases loaded walk to Bradyn Sand after a Cardinal error accounting for the run. Carrington improves to 14-1 overall and 7-0 in Region 3, Midkota drops to 10-5 and 5-3 overall. Carrington will play in Velva on Friday and host Lakota-Edmore on Monday.
