Bultema, age 88, of Valley City, ND, formerly of Wimbledon, ND, died Friday, April 6th at Mercy Hospital in Valley City. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, May 14th at Epworth United Methodist Church in Valley City. Visitation will be held on Friday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Lerud Schuldt Funeral Home and one hour before the service at the church on Saturday afternoon. Interment will be in Prairie View Cemetery, Wimbledon, ND.
Lorraine Beverly Williams was born April 1, 1928 near Hannaford, ND, the daughter of Edward and Agnes (Krokum) Williams. She was baptized and confirmed in the Eidfjord Lutheran Church. She grew up attending rural schools and graduated from Wimbledon High School. Lorraine was united in marriage to George Bultema on April 1, 1947. The couple lived and farmed for many years north of Wimbledon. Here they became parents to nine children. In 1981, George and Lorraine moved to Valley City and became commuting farmers until 1999, when they semi-retired. George passed away April 3, 2011. In whatever community the family lived, Lorraine was active not only in her church, but also in farm and community affairs. Lorraine and George were members of the Dover Dutch Reformed Church and later the Methodist Churches of Wimbledon and Valley City. Lorraine belonged to Homemakers, the Ladies Aide, various women’s church groups, and North Dakota Farmers Union, as well as serving as a 4-H leader for many years. Lorraine was an avid gardener, and she took great pride in growing her flowers and vegetables. She had a number of hobbies including ceramics, china and watercolor painting, sewing, crafts, antiquing, and shopping. Lorraine and George loved traveling across the United States attending numerous conventions and traveling with tour groups. They enjoyed participating in parades with their team of ponies, as well as their ’40 Ford. George and Lorraine were in attendance at most every community social or function, and they became well known among the people they associated with including the Hilltop Cafe crowd. In April, 2010, Lorraine and George sold their home on Riverview Drive and moved to Bridgeview Estates Assisted Living in Valley City. Most recently, Lorraine was a resident of the Sheyenne Care Center.
Lorraine is survived by seven children: Karen (Gary) Krause, Frazee, MN; Harlan (Peggy) Bultema, Moorhead, MN; Nancy (Alan) Bernhagen, Rapid City, SD; Lori (Bill) Wanzek, Wimbledon, ND; Scott (Nancy) Bultema, Casselton, ND; Darci (Michael) Skyles, Aberdeen, SD; and Paul (Kimberly) Bultema, Bismarck, ND. Lorraine is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, a brother Vernon (Shirley) Williams, and a sister Yvonne (Clayton) Anderson, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding Lorraine in death is her husband George, two sons David and Dennis, her parents, a sister and a brother, and a great-granddaughter.
