SD – (NewsDakota.com) Due to the threat of rain, today’s scheduled North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) Softball Championship Series deciding game, the third game was played Sunday at Players Softball Complex in Aberdeen.

Second seeded VCSU jumped to a 1-0 lead, but were held scoreless for the rest of the game as the top overall seed Dickinson State scored a 2-1 thriller.

DSU (45-10 overall) claimed the league’s automatic bid to the NAIA Softball National Tournament opening round which will be held May 16-18.

Valley City State, who is in the receiving votes section of the NAIA Softball Coaches’ Top 25 national poll, owns a school record victories with an overall record of 40-13. The Vikings have to wait and see the results of the NAIA’s Top 25 poll coming out on Tuesday to see if they receive one of the at-large bids to the national tournament.
