CITY, ND – (NewsDakota.com) Valley City State University volleyball coach Adam Longmore has announced the signing of junior college transfer Polette Medina for the 2016-17 season.

A talented 5-foot-9 outside hitter, Medina recently signed a letter of intent to continue her education and volleyball career at VCSU this fall. She played the last two seasons at Coffeyville Community College (Kansas), where she helped the Red Ravens to a 58-25 overall record.

“Polette is a player I have been watching for a long time,” said Longmore. “I knew about her years ago before she went to Coffeyville. It’s been fun to keep an eye on her, and it has been an exciting time throughout the recruiting process with her.”

Medina is a native of Ponce, Puerto Rico, and graduated from Radians High School before starting her college career at Coffeyville.

As a freshman at Coffeyville, Medina earned First Team All Conference and First Team District M All-Region. She was also named an Academic All Conference Athlete. She tallied 441 total kills for a 3.53 kills per set average, which was third best in the conference. She averaged 0.45 service aces per set – which was second in the conference – and tallied 477 total digs, or 3.82 per set. Medina also earned a conference player of the week award, along with being named MVP of the Neosho County Tournament during her freshman year.

As a sophomore, Medina tallied 246 kills, or 1.81 per set for Coffeyville. She had 45 services aces, good for 0.33 per set, and 33 blocks. Medina also recorded 548 digs for a 4.03 per set average.

“Polette makes an immediate impact for us on the outside,” said Longmore. “She has some great playing experience and is such a nice all-around athlete. We can rely on her to score points in the front row; and to pass, play defense, and serve. Perhaps her best quality is her attitude. She is exactly what we need for our team and VCSU. She is an exceptional young lady who will compliment our program, the conference, the University, and the community.”

Medina is the daughter of Ruben Medina and Niurka Cintron. She plans to study psychology while attending VCSU.

Medina joins 5-foot-10 hitter Megan Johnson (Enderlin, N.D./North Dakota State College of Science), 5-foot-6 setter Meagan Schwarzrock (Hutchinson, Minn.) and 5-foot-4 defensive specialist Charlotte Huschka (Valley City, N.D.) as VCSU’s signed recruits for the 2016 season.
