N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Anglers are asking the state Game & Fish Department what to do if and when a tagged fish is caught in North Dakota.

Tagged fish are for the state to record data including time, place and type of fish. This information is then submitted to a fisheries agency or conservation organization. Game Biologist Doug Leier stated that anglers that catch a tagged fish don’t have to throw it back.

Leier stated that if an angler decides to throw the fish back, then they can assist the department in the study that the fish is involved in.

Leier pointed out that the department has been able to gain a lot of information on the fish in state lakes and rivers from the studies.
