CITY, ND – (NewsDakota.com) A ,000 commitment over a three year period was given by the John Deere Foundation to the Sheyenne Valley Community Foundation for their Community Wellness For All program.

The Community Wellness For All program was established last year with the goal to provide an opportunity for low income individuals to participate in programs, services, and membership through Valley City Parks and Recreation at free or reduced costs.

“We received an overwhelming response of impact from those who utilized the program in its first year.  We are ecstatic with the commitment the John Deere Foundation has to giving back to our community and assisting individuals in living a healthier lifestyle.” stated Andrea Nelson, Sheyenne Valley Community Foundation Administrator. One parent provided this comment “It eased the financial burden we face with keeping our kids involved in physical activities. We really appreciated this break.” The program began by offering low income individuals an opportunity to participate in youth programs, adaptive programs for those with disabilities and pool passes offered through VC Parks and Recreation at no cost.  “The program will continue this year and families are encouraged to stop at Social Services to pick up an eligibility letter” explains Nelson. Those who qualify for any Social Service program can access this service.  Letters should be brought to the VC Parks and Recreation office to sign up for Summer Rec programs and pool passes at no charge.

Right now reduced rate Fitness Center Passes are available through an application process with VC Parks and Recreation. This program is income based and a sliding fee scale is used to determine your rate. Those whom may be eligible are encouraged to contact Valley City Parks and Recreation office to get an application.  Nelson adds “Our goal is to provide an opportunity to those who don’t have discretionary dollars to use towards membership fees.” Those interested in applying may contact Valley City Parks and Recreation to fill out an application.
