CITY, ND – (NewsDakota.com) The Barnes County Historical Society in Valley City is the new home for a Triceratops from the North Dakota Geological Survey.
It was delivered recently and is a replacement for “Bob” the triceratops fossil the museum had on display.
Museum director Wes Anderson says Bob’s leaving made a large vacancy in our museum that “Gundy” fills nicely. “We’re grateful for the opportunity to host her.”
Anderson say we also have some more fossils on exhibit from the North Dakota Geological Survey that are sea creatures of the Western Interior Seaway from 65 million years ago that once covered eastern North Dakota.
Mike Triebold, of Triebold Paleontology, discovered Gundy in 1992 on private ranch-land in the Hell Creek formation of northwestern South Dakota. She was more than 80% complete. Her skull is 5 1/2 feet long and 4 feet wide and was almost 95% complete in its fossil form. She is about 18 feet long.
The Barnes County Museum is open to the public from 10am-4pm Monday-Saturday or by appointment by calling 845-0966.
