N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – On a windy Thursday afternoon, hundreds of University of Jamestown students, faculty, and coaches came out to celebrate the groundbreaking of the new Harold Newman Arena.
The arena is being named after the late Harold Newman, who made a generous donation to the project. University President Dr. Robert Badal welcomed the students, thanking all of the individuals that made the construction of the arena possible.
Jimmie Men’s Freshman basketball player Isaac Wahlin thanked the donors who made it possible, pointing out that the team will be grateful to have a home court on campus.
Jimmie Women’s Sophomore basketball player Bryn Woodside echoed Wahlin’s words.
The $15 million project will house a 2000 seating capacity, 8 locker rooms, Jimmie Booster Club Room, and the Athletic Hall of Fame. There will be a bell tower with four ringing bells and a Carillon bell system. The lobby will be designed to hold multi-purpose events.
Construction is set to begin May 2016 and finish in the fall of 2017. It’s the beginning phase of the University of Jamestown’s Capital Campaign.
