N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown/Stutsman Development Corporation reports that New Energy Spirit Investors, LLC are looking to build their first biomass refinery at the Spiritwood Energy Park.

During the Stutsman County Commission meeting, Executive Director Connie Ova reported that New Energy Investors, LLC wanted to build the plant on a site adjacent to the corn ethanol plant and power station. The group wants to reassess the feasibility study previously done by CHS.

The refinery will use North Dakota wheat straw and corn stalks as a feedstock. It will sell its cellulosic ethanol in California under the state’s Low Carbon Fuel Standards program.

The $150 million plant would directly employ 40 people with 60 working indirectly for the plant. Construction will require two years of work and is estimated to begin operations in late 2019.
