N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Job Service North Dakota has reported an increase in job openings across the state with a decrease in unemployment claims.
According to Executive Director Cheri Giesen, claims for unemployment benefits historically peak in January. Since the peak of 1,624 claims per week in January, claims have declined to 916 claims a week. Additionally, the state has gained more than 1,700 new online job openings since January.
Currently, North Dakota has more than 15,000 online job openings and the state continues to have one of the lowest unemployment rates in the nation.
“We’re pleased to see that job opportunities continue to grow across North Dakota at a steady pace,” Giesen said. “We also anticipated that unemployment claims would decline as the seasonal slowdown for several occupation types comes to an end.”
The service will be hosting annual spring and multi-industry job fairs statewide, with over 300 employers participating. Visit www.jobsnd.com for more information.
