FARGO, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – After an extra inning win over Bismarck Legacy on Friday, the Valley City Hi-Liner softball team came back with a 10-4 win over Bismarck High School on Saturday.
A couple of new faces played big roles in the first game, Freshman pitcher Becca Thompson had an excellent outing in the circle picking up her second win allowing Tarryn Justesen a well deserved break after her 17 strikeout performance on Friday and Sophomore Courtney Lloyd, started at third base had an awesome day at the plate and looked very solid at third.
This game was close until the top of the 6th inning when Valley City’s Lloyd hit a 2 run homer and a little later McKenna Taylor hit a 3RBI double as the Hi-Liners put 6 runs on the board.
BHS answered back with one run scored in their half inning, before Thompson shut them down and Justesen entered to seal the victory and earn her first save.
In the final game of the tournament, Dickinson High School defeated Valley City 9-2.
Justesen picked up her first loss on the year for Valley City. All in all it was a good weekend for Hi-Liner fast-pitch as the three teams went 7-1 on the weekend.
Valley City travels to Fargo North tomorrow for their next game at 4:30 p.m.
