N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Army Corps of Engineers have released their plans for releases at both the Jamestown Reservoir and Pipestem Dam.
According to the Corps, both entities are experiencing no releases due to the recent dry conditions in the state. Pipestem Dam Manager Bob Martin stated that this year is different from previous years because releases would be normally occurring at this point of the year.
The Army Corps of Engineers report that the maximum combined release from both reservoirs is not expected to exceed 200 cfs this summer. However, significant rainfall could necessitate higher release levels.
The upper James River basin is currently in abnormally dry to moderate drought conditions according to the US Drought Monitor, which could decrease rainfall runoff into the reservoirs.
Martin stated that both reservoirs have gone through periods of non-release before.
Martin stated that there shouldn’t be any affects to individuals in the area, but water levels will be noticeably lower than in previous years.
