Stringer, age 89, of Valley City, ND, died Friday, April 8th at the Sheyenne Care Center in Valley City. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, April 15th, 2016 at the First Presbyterian Church in Tower City, ND. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 14th from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Lerud Schuldt Funeral Home in Valley City and one hour before the service at the church on Friday afternoon. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 PM Thursday evening at the funeral home. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Tower City, ND.
Dorothy Ethel Griffin was born May 9, 1926, to Edwin and Ethel (Gamble) Griffin in Erie ND. They moved to Tower City in 1931. She graduated from Tower City High School and attended Valley City Teachers College. After college, Dorothy taught in a rural school south of Valley City. On September 4, 1946, she married George Stringer. Dorothy was the Postmaster in Tower City from 1966 to her retirement in 1986. She was a member of the Tower City Presbyterian Church, serving as an elder and being active in the Presbyteria Women’s Group.
She is survived by her children, Donald (Janet), Fargo, ND, Robert (Donna), Sykeston, ND, Richard (Charlie), Tower City, Mary Cockerill, Tower City, Nancy Aldrich, Ashley, ND, and Dale, New Hampton, IA; 11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; twin brother, Donald Griffin of Bartlesville, OK; sister-in-law Harriet Griffin of Tower City; numerous nieces and nephews; and the staff and residents of Legacy Place in Valley City.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George, her parents and her brother, James.
