N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – April is Child Abuse Prevention Month and the North Dakota Department of Human Services is partnering with Family Services Division and Prevent Child Abuse North Dakota to fund several coalitions joining the cause.
Numerous coalitions in the state are receiving grant funds that will be used to coordinate education events and projects. Some of those include parenting classes and hands-on learning fairs, conferences walks, blue ribbon displays and other family oriented activities.
Some coalitions locally receiving grants funds include Central Valley Health District, Jamestown; Eddy, Foster, and Wells County Social Services, Carrington, New Rockford, and Fessenden; Kidder County Social Services, Steele; LaMoure County Social Services, LaMoure; and Region 6 Parent Resource Center – NDSU Extension Service, Valley City.
“April is a time to recognize the important role that North Dakota communities play in protecting children and strengthening families,” said Shari Doe, director of the North Dakota Department of Human Services’ Children and Family Services Division. “When communities both big and small come together to show support for families, it can have a powerful impact on preventing child abuse and neglect.”
Some events will be held locally to help raise awareness of child abuse. The fifth annual Pinwheels for Prevention 5K Run/Walk in Fessenden will be April 23rd at the Wells County Fairgrounds. The 5K Super Hero Fun Walk will be held Saturday, April 23rd in Valley City. A children’s concert featuring Valley City resident Joe DeMasi will be Tuesday, April 26th.
