CITY, ND – (NewsDakota.com) Concerns centering on the increasing cost of treating water at the Valley City water treatment plant were voiced during a city commission meeting by Commissioner Madeline Luke.

Luke says engineers from UND have proposed a study to gather data to find an answer concern the increased treatment of brown sludge. The estimated cost of the study is $35,000.

Meanwhile, local clean water advocate Paul Stenshoel urged the city to take a look into why more brown sludge is appearing in the water.

Luke says the tap water is of good quality and safe to drink. But she says the question remains as to why it’s costing the city more money to treat the water.
