(Rick) Nielsen passed away Wednesday, April 6, 2016 peacefully in palliative care at Essentia Hospital in Fargo.
Rick was born May 20, 1950 to Wayne and Myla (Eggert) Nielsen. Sports were his passion in life. Rick graduated from Valley City High School in 1968. He was the Sports Editor for the Valley City Times Record for many years and later became the Sports Editor for the Jamestown Sun. He loved covering all sports and was a very talented writer and photographer in which he received many awards. Rick also worked for Tharaldson Properties and VC Super 8 Motel.
Rick is survived by his mother, Myla Nielsen of Valley City, sister, Deb (Nielsen) Feuerherm, and two brothers, Bruce (Cheri) Nielsen and Mark (Stacey) Nielsen, all of Valley City; one son, Jade (Jamie) Nielsen of Fargo; and 4 grandchildren, Ingrid, Cash, Keenan and Henley Nielsen.
He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Rick was preceded in death by his son, Josh Nielsen, his father, Wayne Nielsen, brother, Randy Nielsen and brother-in-law, Mike Feuerherm.
There will be a Memorial Service/Time of Sharing for Rick on Monday, April 11th at 6:30pm at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Valley City.
