N.D. (AP) – The U.S. Department of Agriculture says precipitation with amounts up to an inch covering most of North Dakota has helped ease fire danger in the state.

The Agricultural Statistics Service says topsoil moisture supplies are rated 6 percent very short, 28 percent short, 65 percent adequate and 1 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies are rated 5 percent very short, 28 percent short, 65 percent adequate and 2 percent surplus.

Temperatures averaged two to six degrees above normal, providing 2.8 days suitable for fieldwork. Reports indicate that producers on average intend to begin fieldwork by April 12.

Winter wheat condition is rated 2 percent very poor, 4 percent poor, 33 percent fair, 60 percent good and 1 percent excellent. Spring wheat planted is 1 percent.
