N.D. (AP) — A man who was involved in a police standoff last month that left him and a Fargo officer dead died of a self-inflicting gunshot wound.
Cass County State’s Attorney Birch Burdick on Friday announced the results of a review into the circumstances of the 11-hour standoff that took place in mid-February.
The review shows a police officer fired only two rounds wounding suspect Marcus Schumacher in the arm but not killing him. The review says Schumacher shot himself.
A search warrant filed after the standoff says Schumacher called police dispatch the evening of Feb. 10 and said he would hurt “anyone that comes close to the house.”
Officer Jason Moszer died from a single gunshot wound.
Police recovered five guns and numerous spent shell and tear gas casings from the home. The warrant says a rifle was found under Schumacher’s body.
