Visitation will be held from 4:00pm to 7:00pm Tuesday, March 29th at the Good Shepherd Chapel, Ave Maria Chapel with a vigil service at 7:00 pm.
Kyd was born March 13th, 1922 to Henry and Beatrice (Witzig) Schrader on the family farm west of Adrian, ND. He received his early education in the Adrian township school system. Kyd was a self-taught man, reading encyclopedias, farming manuals, and any magazines to do with farming. He learned many farming skills working alongside his father. Kyd grew up riding horses, playing baseball, hunting and fishing with his father and brothers. Kyd worked hard to become a successful farmer.
Kyd and Verna Mae “Girlie” Cuypers were married November 13, 1942 in Dickey, ND at the Assumption Church rectory. Together they enjoyed a long married life of 68 years and raised 4 children. Verna Mae passed away December 6th, 2010.
Kyd was a devoted father and husband. He enjoyed teaching young people by example…good work ethics, generosity and kindness to others. He often babysat for nieces and nephews as well as his grandchildren later in life. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, square dancing, bowling, and playing cards with neighbors. He spent much time watching his grandchildren’s sporting events and teaching them how to drive vehicles! “Slowly!”
He served as a supervisor on the Adrian Township Board for a few years and was a member of St. James Basilica in Jamestown, ND.
Kyd farmed for nearly 70 years, helping neighbors and friends when they needed it. Farming was his passion and Girlie was the love of his life!
Together they took several vacations with their children and friends. Kyd enjoyed visiting with people of all walks of life. He had a friendly disposition and a great sense of humor! He was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his 4 children: daughters, Donnell Herzog, Fayetteville, AR, Gayle (Richard) Lamp, Edgeley, ND, Nancy (Terry) Amundson, Elbow Lake, MN; and a son: Scott (Donna) Schrader, Adrian, ND; grandchildren, Desiree (Mike) Wilkins, Tami (Dean) Williams, Fayetteville, AR, Lance (Amy) Herzog, Vancouver, WA, Tyler (Erin) Lamp, Jamestown, ND, Stuart (Jaime) Lamp, Fargo, ND, Jordan Lamp, Edina, MN, Ryan (Nicole Marti) Amundson, Alexandria, MN, Tara (Beau) Rothschadl, Dilworth, MN, Jenna (Scott) Kosola, Windsor, CO, Abby (Brad) Grende, Waitsburg, WA, and Donny (Natalie Young) Schrader, Adrian, ND. Kyd had 25 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren!
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and brothers, Milford (Bus), Henry (Johnny), and Clayton (Tink); and sisters, Ivanelle Cook, and Carol Schrader.
