JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – It’s no secret that North Dakota State University quarterback Carson Wentz is one of the top prospects eligible for the upcoming NFL draft. Team officials from around the league will descend upon the Fargodome March 24 for the NDSU Pro Day to get an up close and personal look at Wentz and nine other Bison players in advance of the April 28-30 draft.
One other player hoping to raise some eyebrows is Jarelle Miller, whose performance at the Midwest Regional Scouting Combine in Minneapolis drew rave reviews and earned the former Jimmie linebacker an invite to NDSU’s Pro Day.
“The combine went great in Minnesota,” Miller said. “It was definitely what I needed to get my foot in the door. NDSU coaches told me it would depend on my performance there if they would allow me to join their pro day.”
Miller’s performance definitely stood out. He recorded a 40-yard dash time of 4.7 seconds, a 34-inch vertical jump, a 10′ 2″ mark in the broad jump, and a 4.4 second clocking in the shuttle run.
“I actually shocked myself with those numbers,” said Miller. “A few teams reached out and contacted my agent and me. The Packers viewed my film and thought I was very athletic, but needed to see more out of me. The Lions reached out as well and asked if I’d be attending the NDSU Pro Day even before I was invited. My agent and I also talked to the Raiders and Titans.”
Odds are representatives from all 32 teams will be in attendance, which can only help Miller’s chances at catching on with an organization. The always-humble Miller was once again quick to thank his supporters.
“I really appreciate the support that Jimmie Nation has given me,” Miller said. “God is putting me in the right places at the right time, now I just have to finish!”
