N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A group of individuals have filed for a petition to force a recall vote of Stutsman County Sheriff Chad Kaiser.
Chairman of the recall committee Tim Greshik stated that the group was created because they felt Kaiser has lost all trust in the county. He stated that recently terminated officer Elizabeth Kapp has no involvement with either the group or the recall petition.
Greshik stated that the main reason they were asking for the recall of Sheriff Kaiser was due to the way the investigation was handled.
Greshik is encouraging people to sign the petition, regardless of who they support. He pointed out that if the petition goes through, the election is held and Kaiser gets re-elected, it would prove that the community trusts Kaiser.
Sheriff Kaiser stated that it’s the public’s right to ask for a recall election.
Kaiser stated that when he terminated Kapp from employment with the department, it was his own decision based on the joint investigation findings.
If the petition is approved, 2,330 signatures would be needed in order for it to be placed on a ballot. Kaiser is currently in his second term and would normally not face a re-election challenge until 2018.
